Students walking between Engine canteen and Central Forum enjoy the shade and beautiful flowers along the path

A stretch of magnificant raintrees within SRC cools down the hot bodies

While not exactly living up to its name (possibly due to the insufficient undergrowth), lover's park provides a welcome cooling breeze for many a bazaar in the Central Forum

This forest of raintrees provides a great way to avoid the crowds (and donation drives) along the Arts corridor

The trees here help to block out dust and noise from Kent Ridge bus terminal as well as Clementi Road
Vote for green spaces, better places
In the last few years, many new buildings were raised on campus. While building new facilities is important, there is a need to ensure that the green spaces on campus are not compromised. This is a pressing concern as these places play a major role in enhancing the campus environment that we study, work and play in.Once built on, the green landscapes so unique to NUS would be lost forever. As such, we hope to collect 5000 signatures to ask the school for these iconic green spaces to be set aside as conservation zones that would not be slated for development for at least the next 20 years.
Green spaces are particularly important for
- Reducing urban temperatures via shading and evapotranspiration
- Reducing harshness of the urban skyline
- Preventing soil erosion
- Mitigating Urban Heat Island effect
